Colnbrook School in Oxhey, Herts has children with moderate to severe learning difficulties such as autism and down's syndrome and are unable to communicate without specialist help.
The Trust hopes to replace a condemned detached portakabin building which is over thirty years old, beyond repair and no longer appropriate for children with learnign disabilities, with a new purpose designed building which will be linked to the main school building.
"Communication is the most important skill that we can give to a child" says Richard Hill, headteacher at Colnbrook. "It is through communication that we express and explore our needs, our feelings and our understanding of the complex world we live in. Without communication, a child is barred from all the wonderful experiences that our world can offer."
The new building will be dedicated to the late Betty Chandler, whose son Victor is one of the Trust's major supporters. |
