Leigh Hobson who is a member of the RAF Regiment is about to embark on the challenge of a lifetime to compete in the 20th Marathon des Sables to raise money for charity. The marathobn takes place in April 2005 and will cover a total distance of 150 miles across the Sahara Desert. It is considered to be the "Toughest Race on Earth". The Marathon is run over seven days and is split into legs of various distances in which runners could experience temperatures of up to 120oF. During the race, Leigh will be completely self-sufficient carrying his own food and water for the entire seven-day perio. Consisting of over 750 participants from 30 different nationalities, the competition is world renowned, covered by media from around the world. The race is also televised in 150 different countries.
Leigh is aiming to raise £10,000 through private and corporate sponsorship and all money raised will be donated to the Philip Green Memorial Trust. Obviously, as a high profile event, any major sponsor would receive maximum publicity.
